Art was in his blood. He was fascinated by the paints and brushes in his house and eventually dropped out of school to pursue the art form that came to him as an inheritance from his ancestors, who belonged to Chitrakar (artist) clan, known for their artistry since time immemorial. Lok Chitrakar, celebrated for his paubha paintings, is a self-taught artist who started painting at the tender age of 12. His father and relatives made various religious arts and as a child Lok Chitrakar would observe them with keen interest.

His father and relatives created various religious arts and as a child Lok Chitrakar eagerly observed their work.. Overtime, he began assisting them while drawing pictures of various deities for religious ceremony. He recalls, “ When i was 10 years old, an urge to create art of Astamatrika (eight female deities) Overwhelmed me. I searched for its iconography and finally found it in a small temple at Indrachowk. Inspired by it, I created my first Paubha art on a cloth.”

The sacred art form of Paubha is a visual interpretation of the Buddhist and Hindu philosophies as practiced in the Vajrayana tradition. Ritualistic symbolism is used to depict gods and goddesses in their different postures which is according to ancient text so, Once a viewer becomes aware of the symbolism then each Paubha painting can be read like a text which helps in aiding the practitioner in their meditation practice. Then after almost two centuries, Paubha is becoming popular again which is a good sign for Paubha artists.
